Meet Lola

Meet Lola:

Breed: Chihuahua Cross (Possibly mixed with Foxie)

Personality: Lola loves her tummy rubs and will flop over for a pat all day long. She thrives on human company and just wants to be with or around you. Lola's lively demeanor makes her an ideal addition to any family seeking a furry companion or someone craving constant cuddles and playful antics.

Background: Lola's journey hasn't been easy. She was discovered along with her siblings in a box during a rainy day in the park, suffering from hyperthermia. Thankfully, she received prompt medical care at an animal welfare vet and was later taken into rescue from the council shelter.

Health: Lola has been desexed and received her first and second round of vaccinations, ensuring she's ready to embark on her new adventure with you.

Ideal Home: Lola is looking for a loving home where she can enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. She adores exploring the outdoors during the day and snuggling up indoors at night. Since she's still a young pup, she'll benefit from training sessions and attending puppy school to help her develop into a well-behaved and socialized dog.

Requirements: Lola's future family should be committed to providing her with a safe and nurturing environment. Regular exercise, mental stimulation, and lots of love are essential for this bubbly pup to thrive. She will need additional ongoing twice daily mediation. Please see the health notes.

If you're ready to welcome a playful, affectionate, and endlessly charming companion into your life, Lola is eagerly waiting to meet you! Contact us to arrange a meet-and-greet and give Lola the forever home she deserves.

Note1: A vet appointment for her siblings on 27/3 reveals that they might be 3-4 weeks older than what was originally assessed.

Medical notes
Has a grade 4 heart murmur. Has had a EchoCardioGram at SASH. as been diagnosed with Subaortic stenosis - moderate.

Subaortic stenosis (SAS) is a relatively common heart defect in dogs. This is caused by the development of a narrowing below the aortic
valve, which obstructs normal blood flow leaving the heart. With time, this can lead to severe cardiac changes, such as thickening of the
walls of the heart (hypertrophy) or reduced pumping ability.

The severity of subaortic stenosis is variable. Dogs with a mild form of the disease can go on to live a normal life without experiencing
any heart problems during their life-span. However, dogs with severe subaortic stenosis can develop clinical signs. These include
collapsing episodes (particularly during exercise or excitement), exercise intolerance and fluid build up within the lungs (heart failure).
Unfortunately, some dogs experience sudden death due to development of malignant heart rhythms.

At present, Lola's disease severity is moderate, and therefore it is difficult to predict whether she may live a completely normal life or
whether she will eventually develop any clinical signs. The severity of subaortic stenosis can progress until Lola is fully grown, which
means that her disease could still get worse. For this reason, we will need to repeat her echocardiogram to monitor the progression of
her condition in 9 months-12 months, once she is fully grown.

We recommend starting Lola on medication to reduce the workload of the heart and reduce the development of abnormal
heart rhythms (arrhythmias). This medication is lifelong. Please note that as Lola's weight increases, her dose will need to be adjusted.
We aim for a dose between 1-1.5 mg/kg.

Dogs with subaortic stenosis are at increased risk of developing infections in the aortic valve. Should Lola undergo any surgical
procedures (e.g. dental extractions) or develop infections elsewhere in the body, we recommend prompt antibiotic treatment to reduce
the risk of valve infection.
