Khoda

Khoda

Rotti x - male

Khodea has improved so much that we are now ready to find a Special home who can cater for his special needs. We have attached a report from both his Vet and Physio Therapist to show how much he has improved and that in a home that is prepared to continue with his long term treatment you will be rewarded with a loving and loyal dog. Everyone that meets Khodea responds positively to him as he has that beautiful Rotti nature and is a gentle sooky boy. He has even started getting into the mischief that he missed out on as a small pup because he has been in so much pain and now he's into it all

Vet Update: X-rays failed to reveal any obvious radiographic abnormality of Khodea spine, they did however show mild-moderate hip dysplasia which explains his hip pain and may lead to advancing arthritis later in life. A trial was initiated with Rimadyl (non steroidal anti-inflammatory) plus controlled exercise. The septic arthritis responded well to antibiotics and has been completely resolved with no long term problems. Khodea received a course of four Pentosan injections to improve his joint function and this should be repeated every 3 months as a single injection with the next injection due June 2010. At a recheck examination on 1st June 2010 Khodea had markedly decreased pain when his hips were extended (although still has discomfort at full extension). The discomfort on palpation of his spine has improved only slightly. We would recommend 3 monthly rechecks alongside a Pentosan injection plus continuation of physio and regular controlled exercise. Since starting physio treatment Khodea has not needed any pain relief.

Physio Report: Khodea initially presented to this clinic with spinal and hip pain, ungainly unco-ordinated walk, dragging both hind limbs whilst walking, with audible scraping of nails on hind limbs, reluctant or unable to stand for longer than 30 seconds or to walk further than a few metres. Khodea has had 2 sessions weekly of physiotherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy. He has improved to the extent that he is now able and willing to walk 3 kms daily, has no sign of spinal pain (has not been on pain medication for 2 weeks),and has a more co-ordinated gait. He still drags his hind limbs, with audible scraping of nails, but a lot less than at start of treatment. Overall this has been a great improvement.

Update 1/6/10: Physio Report: Khodea initially presented to this clinic with spinal and hip pain, ungainly unco-ordinated walk, dragging both hind limbs whilst walking, with audible scraping of nails on hind limbs, reluctant or unable to stand for longer than 30 seconds or to walk further than a few metres. He still drags his hind limbs, with audible scraping of nails, but a lot less than at start of treatment. Overall this has been a great improvement.

Update 4/4/10: Khodea has been on a month long course of weekly injections to ease the pain in his back and hips, and is still on daily pain mediation tablets.Every 3 months he will need a booster injection to continue easing the pain.He is also on a special diet to stop him growing too fast and is restricted to only very short walks a few times a week.Even though he has all these problems, he is still a very happy and loving dog who just wants to be with people and have a belly rub.

Khoda is currently under vet assessment after being diagnosed with hip dysplasia and inflammation of the spine. On top of this he has developed a septic infection of his front leg which he probably picked up from his mother when only a young puppy. This means poor Khoda is in quite a bit of pain at the moment but the infection should heal under the treatment he is now on. His hips are being monitored while he undergoes treatment and further diagnosis will be given in a few weeks.

In the meantime his vet work has been extensive and we are seeking sponsorship to help us cover some of these additional costs.

Khoda's vet fees have so far come to $2,612. If you can help please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email dchanimaladoptions@iprimus.com.au or click below.

Thank you to Danielle, Jason, Ruth, Margo, Justin, Sandra, Paul, Roland, Melissa, Deborah and Sophie for their generous donations towards Khodea. His vet fees have now been fully covered.

Khoda was adopted on 20 June 2010 after 2 weeks in foster care

Miss Kitty

Miss Kitty

DLH - female

Miss Kitty is a beautiful kitten both physically and in personality. Sheloves to sit with you, preferably on your chest or shoulder, while you'rewatching TV and is proving to be a fantastic water bottle this winter. Hercoat is wonderfully soft, like fairy floss according to my daughter, and sowill require some grooming. She loves to play and run around after the otherkittens but is just as happy napping anywhere where there's warmth. Miss Kitty will eat anything put in front of her and she is litter trained.I believe she would be better in a home without small children but she doesget along well with the other kittens and my Tibetan spaniel.

Miss Kitty was adopted on 20 June 2010 after 4 days in foster care
