Hi DCH Staff,

We adopted two kittens from you in December 2006 from Riverstone, and collected them in January 2007 as they were too young to be weaned the month before. This may be a bit out of your time frame, but I wondered if they might be okay for your calendar. Their cat foster mum, Martha, featured in last year's calendar. They are brother and sister and there is quite a story with the boy who disappeared at almost two years of age but, thank God, was found and returned to us 4 years and 4 months later! Photos attached.

Kind Regards,
Cathie

Jason and Fabian

Jason and Fabian

Hi Judy

We adopted two of our boys in 2004, from what I believe is the "old" DCH.

Jason, our first adoptee, is sadly now fighting a valiant battle against liver cancer. We lost Fabian, our second adoptee, to an undiagnosed clot in 2009, after Fabian had heroically triumphed over viral meningitis in late 2004-early 2005.

Please find attached a photo of, from left to right, Jason, Fabian and Tristan (we found Tristan abandoned in a car park, losing him to a heart attack in 2012).

Kind regards
Karen

Little Bit

Little Bit

We did adopt a dog, I think it was in 2005. He was a black Lab/Kelpie with the great name of Little Bit.

Unfortunately he developed a spine tumour and we had to put him down last year. Attached are a couple of pictures of him, one at his best and one at his worst.

Hope this is of help.

Regards and keep up the good work.
Ian

Chiko

Chiko

Chiko the Chihuahua!

Well sort of. He's actually a pomchi but don't tell him that. Or is he a chiranian? Either way he's our little Prince!

We take him camping because he is lazy & likes to sit around and do nothing and he's our son's best buddy.

Thanks DCH.

Riley

Hi, we adopted our dog Riley from you in Dec 2004.

Pics attached, its Riley (the black and White) and our other dog Kali (also a rescue but from a different centre) at our place in the lower hunter valley. Riley now has 100 acres to roam and as people often tell us is "living the life of Riley"!

Melba

Melba

Hi There

Just a short note. We got our wonderful dog "Melba" from one of your carers in January 2007. We think she was about 6 months old when she adopted us, so not one of your first, but I thought I would send this note anyhow.

We attended a friends BBQ where Melba was staying at the time. I gave her a pat and played with her a bit, and while there were lots of people at the BBQ, she did not leave my side for the rest of the day"... She came home with us a few days later, and still doesn't leave my side, a real loyal friend!!!

My wife said she wasn't sure about getting a dog at the time, as she was a cat person, she now says she can't imagine life without our Melba. Melba has been a wonderful part of our family. It was just my wife and I initially, but we now have two kids (Girls), and Melba adores them, and vice versa.

Melba is a high spirited, highly intelligent ball of energy, but knows about kids and is very gentle with them. Her favourite things are going out, anywhere, and especially when there is water involved. She swims and dives like a fish, and will run till she drops. Its funny, I looked for some old photos and found her original DCH description and photo. (Description below, photo attached).

"Melly is a water baby, she just loovveess water!!! Her toes are slightly webbed so she may be crossed with a water breed of some sort. She is a loving and sweet natured girl who loves everyone she meets. She would make a great pet and her love of water would be fantastic for people who spend lots of time around water. She is not an over excitable puppy which would make her great with kids. Although she isn't the most cutest pup around her personality certainly makes up for it.

As you can see, her love of water was identified back then, which suits us fine, as we spend a lot of time around the water.

Have also attached a couple of photos for you. There are shots of Melba with me on a Port Macquarie beach, one with her Kong, and one in a friend's pool. Also a high res shot of her in mid air chasing a stick.

Anyhow, I thought you would like to hear how Melba is going, as we sure rate her as a success story.

Kind Regards
Dave

Karla

Karla

Hello DCH

Congratulations on your ten year anniversary. You do great work. We have not known your work for quite ten years, but in September, 2007 we adopted an eight week old cross kelpie pup, our Karla, through you. Francine was her carer and she called her 'my big, quiet girl'. Karla was - and still is- a beauty. We believe that there are many good dogs who do not begin life with the advantages our beloved German Shepherds have. It has always been our privilege and pleasure to also have a dog from this different background as part of our family. Our German Shepherd bitch, Freya brought Karla up beautifully. The two were great friends and had many adventures together. When Freya died, Karla stepped into the 'boss dog' shoes and brought up the new pup. Patient and tolerant but with strict standards, she made sure Rika became the well-mannered dog she is today.

I have attached a photo of Karla by herself and one of her with Rika. Together these two make us a family. Thank you DCH.

Neil and Rosemary Montgomery.

Cherry

Cherry

Hi

My name is Glenys and I adopted a dog by the name of Cherry back in July.

Firstly she has settled in extremely well and all our animals get on well together the day we got Cherry we also picked up a 12 week old teacup poodle named Cleopatra who was with us when we picked Cherry up and they bonded immediately at home we also have 2 kelpie/cattle/border collie crosses who are about 18 months old they also bonded very well with both Cherry and Cleo. I did take Cherry to my vet to get her ears checked and get the ear cleaner that I was told about due to the ear infection she had when your organisation found her. My vet found a mild heart murmmer this by no means turned us off taking her and my vet has assured me that she is not having any problems but could be affected as she gets older.

Cherry is very active and as we have now moved out onto a small property has much more exercise. Cleo and Cherry live inside and sleep with us, and they rough house quite often with Whiskey and Brandy. Cherry has really bonded with me and I am rarely out of her site, she sleeps with my husband and I (as does Cleo) I think we are going to have to get a bigger bed very soon, We love her dearly and is a very much loved family member. I do hope you can update your site with info that she is in animal paradise (we are animal lovers).

Cheers

Glenys
